Bengaluru, Aug 14th, 2009: India's First Toastmaster club, Garden City Toastmasters Club celebrates 18 successful years. The club's executive committee has chosen to celebrate this occasion on Friday, 14th August, 2009, the same date when the club's first meeting was held 18 years back. Public is invited to drop in at the venue and witness the event.
In the year 1991, a visionary Mr. Subramanium Chittur started ‘Garden City Speakers Forum’, the first Toastmasters club in India. This club has helped thousands of people improve their self confidence and become effective communicators. Also, the club has mentored many clubs in India; as a result there are more than 100 clubs in the country.
“Having benefited immensely from Toastmasters, I was keen to settle my accounts by starting a chapter in India. I feel that communication plays a very important role in the success of an individual. Our objective is to create effective leaders who will contribute in building a great India. “
What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters International is a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in speaking in front of an audience.
From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader with a mission of making effective oral communication a world wide reality. The non-profit organization now has nearly 250,000 members in more than 12,500 clubs in 106 countries, offering a proven – and enjoyable! – way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.
Toastmasters clubs all over the country are involved in developing students by doing the Youth Leadership Programs, in schools for children above 12 years. Over a lakh people have benefited by the programs initiated by Toastmasters in India.
The meetings are conducted every Friday. It is a friendly atmosphere for learning and a do it your self kind of workshop, with some friendly mentoring and feedback. Anyone can attend and witness the weekly meeting at the venue below.
